MBA Overview


The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at American University of Sharjah (AUS) is like no other MBA in the region. Our mission is to prepare you for leadership positions in the private and public sectors.

Our program is designed to enable talented future leaders to make a vertical leap in their current career path, change job function or industry, or acquire an entrepreneurial toolkit to start or develop their own business.

Our program adapts state-of-the-discipline business knowledge to the needs of the local market, allowing students to integrate new knowledge into business problem solving for a global context.

AUS MBA graduates are expected to achieve the following objectives: (1) proficiency in the core business knowledge required of an executive manager; (2) understanding of the interrelations between business organizations and other societal institutions; (3) excellent teamwork, interpersonal communication and leadership skills; and (4) excellent decision-making skills rooted in critical thinking, analysis and problem solving.

The program consist of 46.5 credits or 17 courses, including seven fundamental courses (some of which can be waived according to your past record), eight core courses and two electives to choose from multiple possibilities. You can earn a generalist MBA or engage in one of our four concentrations. Our program is flexible: You can switch from a full-time (three or four courses per week) to a part-time (from one course per week) schedule and vice versa, whenever you want each semester. Courses are offered in the evening—you design your own schedule. Our program can be completed in as little as 16 months (if you can waive the foundation courses and take three courses per semester) or as much as five years, depending on your situation.

As a not-for-profit institution, AUS aims to keep the tuition fees reasonable, for a maximized return on investment: The program will cost between AED AED 133,000 and 206,000, depending on the courses waived and the number of electives you take.

Course Structure


The MBA requires completion of 46.5 credits in 17 courses including seven foundation courses (some of which can be waived based on prior academic achievement), eight core courses, and two electives. Earn a generalist MBA or choose to develop specialized skills in one of our four concentration areas: Finance, Human Resource Management, Management Consulting, and Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Students taking the generalist MBA track take any two electives courses among the many on offer. Those who choose an MBA concentration take three electives among those offered in the chosen concentration.

Many of the assignments focus on the application of management principles to specific case studies and real projects. MBA students often find that bringing together the insights of their classmates gives them a new perspective on their own work.

Criteria for Acceptance


MBA students form a group of learners who work together and learn from each other. For this reason, the selection of students is especially important. We seek individuals who can bring useful working experience or interesting insights, not just good grades or a few years at a well-known company. Some have started their own business or are looking to create a new venture in the future.

  • Hold a four-year undergraduate degree, with a GPA of at least 3.0 (preferred) or other evidence of your preparation for graduate work
  • Have attained an International TOEFL score of 213 (or 550 on the AUS version), or 6.5 on IELTS
  • Submit an acceptable score on the AUS MBA Admissions Test or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
  • Statistics and computer skills
  • Students admitted into the program normally have at least two years of work experience in a business, nonprofit or government organization
