PRISEAL VI Conference

November 25–27, 2026 | American University of Sharjah

Building fairer and more inclusive futures for global knowledge production

About PRISEAL

As an international organization, Publishing and Presenting Research Internationally: Issues for Speakers of English as an Additional Language (PRISEAL) is dedicated to supporting researchers who use English as an additional language to publish and present their work. Since its first meeting in Tenerife in 2007, PRISEAL has addressed the social, linguistic and geopolitical challenges faced by scholars navigating English-medium academic publishing. Over the years, the organization has helped articulate global concerns around research inequities, language hierarchies, academic publishing norms and access to international scholarly communication.

2026 Conference Theme:

Academic equity, emerging technologies and the politics of knowledge production

For the first time, PRISEAL will be held in the Global South, hosted at American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. PRISEAL VI builds upon conversations from Tenerife (2007 and 2023), Katowice (2011), Coimbra (2015) and Reykjavík (2018) and continues the community’s commitment to confronting the rapidly evolving challenges of global scholarly communication.

In Sharjah, this hybrid conference will explore how emerging technologies, evolving language policies and shifting geopolitical landscapes shape the production, dissemination and evaluation of scholarly knowledge.

Welcome to Sharjah

We are delighted to welcome PRISEAL to Sharjah, a city known for its rich cultural heritage and commitment to education and knowledge-building. The conference will be hosted at American University of Sharjah (AUS), an institution recognized for its academic strength, international engagement and diverse student community. We look forward to hosting you on the AUS campus and to the conversations that PRISEAL VI will inspire.

Call for Proposals — PRISEAL VI Hybrid Conference

Theme: Academic equity, emerging technologies and the politics of knowledge production

The Publishing and Presenting Research Internationally: Issues for Speakers of English as an Additional Language (PRISEAL) group invites proposals for online OR in-person presentations, roundtables or workshops for its 2026 conference. For the first time in PRISEAL history, we are delighted to invite you to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates for the next conference. Our 2026 theme—“Academic equity, emerging technologies and the politics of knowledge production”—is designed to encourage contributions from the widest possible range of scholars and practitioners. We invite proposals on topics related to scholarly research production and dissemination, such as:

  • artificial intelligence, large language models, and scholarly writing policies, practices and pedagogies
  • academic publishing issues (e.g., advantages and limitations of open-access vs. commercial publishers; predatory journals and publishers)
  • the geopolitics of academic writing (e.g., dominance of English, epistemicide, English as a Lingua Franca)
  • academic ethics from a cross-cultural perspective (e.g., plagiarism and academic integrity)
  • translation and editing in the academic context
  • assessing and teaching English for research and publication purposes
  • peer-review in intercultural and multilingual contexts
  • pedagogies for supporting plurilingual scholars’ research writing
  • national/institutional policies in the knowledge economy
  • academic freedom
  • multimodal and digital writing practices
  • bi/multi/pluriliteracies
  • spatializing research production
  • ERPP as a “field”
  • raciolinguistics, knowledge production, and epistemologies of the South
  • institutional initiatives/policies/practices designed to support academic scholars and publication
  • technological innovation in ERPP

Though the focus is on scholarly writing for publication in English, our conference is officially a plurilingual space, where proposals may be submitted (and talks delivered) in Arabic, French, Spanish or English (translation will be available in real time). PRISEAL VI specifically seeks contributions from both established and emerging scholars from a range of geolinguistic locales, and we welcome virtual OR in person presentations that address not only issues related to English, but all languages of publication and presentation.

Types of proposals welcomed:

  • research presentation on innovative approaches to pedagogy (20 mins + 10 mins Q&A)
  • roundtable discussion (3-4 presenters, 45 mins plus 15 mins Q&A)
  • workshop (1 hour, interactive with audience)
  • Deadline for Submissions: March 30, 2026
  • Notification of results: April 30, 2026
  • Registration deadline: July 1, 2026

Submit conference proposals (max 250 words), along with a short bio with contact information and indication of in-person or virtual format and language preference to PRISEALVI@gmail.com.
