#1

IN UAE FOR ART & DESIGN

About the Program

The Master of Fine Arts in Trans-Disciplinary Design (MFA-TRD) is the first program of its kind in the GCC, preparing strategic design leaders to navigate the AI era. Offered by the College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD), the program integrates studio practice, critical theory, design research and emerging technologies.

Students work across disciplines to research complex societal, environmental and technological challenges; develop and test design concepts; and translate insights into human-centered, sustainable responses integrating design, science, culture and technology, resulting in prototypes, systems and design interventions.

The program aligns with the UAE’s National Strategy for the Cultural and Creative Industries and the National Innovation Strategy, reflecting national priorities in culture, innovation and knowledge-based development.

YOUR CULMINATING PROJECT

Program Pathways

OPTION A

Research Thesis

A self-initiated, research-driven pathway, the thesis is developed under faculty supervision and allows students to pursue an original line of inquiry aligned with their own interests. It integrates theoretical inquiry, critical analysis and creative experimentation, culminating in written documentation and a public presentation or exhibition.

OPTION B

Industry-Integrated Capstone

The capstone is developed in partnership with a cultural, governmental, corporate or non-profit organization, and is jointly supervised by AUS faculty and an external professional mentor.

Capstone projects may take the form of applied research, speculative design proposals or entrepreneurial prototypes that address contemporary challenges in sustainability, culture, technology and society.
